Hypo-Kra-Z

And why doesn't Ash spell right?
Because THAT sounds like a band name rather than a boring word.

Which is true...Hypocrisy IS a band name but well, enough about that.

Everyone is a hypocrite. Tis simple really, do you follow advice you give to others?
You most likely don't. Thus making you --> a hypocrite.
But the EXTENT of hypocrisy in us all varies. I'd like to highlight a character -one that's fictional, sadly- who has a very SMALL extent of it and as such, is hated by
the masses.

And that character is Gregory House.

For all of you who don't watch House, House is some one who tells it as it is. However blunt or tactless, it's the sheer truth. No pretences, no looking out for emotions and he follows what he preaches to major extents. Even tho it ails him. He has his human flaws (his addiction to vykadine) and he isn't perfect.

But he is one who cannot at all be called a hypocrite.

I could never understand being two-faced. Altho, I do put on a facade to some because I don't like worrying them plus I hate pity--makes me feel a whole lot worse. But could that be considered hypocrisy too?

"Hypocrisy is the act of pretending to support a belief or behaviour while holding the opposite beliefs or behaviours at the same time. Hypocrisy is frequently invoked as an accusation in debates, in politics, and in life in general. A few theorists have studied the utility of hypocrisy, and in some cases have suggested that the conflicts manifested as hypocrisy are a necessary or beneficial part of human behavior and society"

Well since the facades are a put-on behaviour, I guess I'd be a hypocrite too.

Tho serious hypocrisy can get a tad annoying sometimes.

Like when a person tells you what they feel and think and give another story to someone else.
Or when a person DOESN'T tell you their flaws and only feed you the ill that is being done to them rather than the actual story thus disabling you of making an objective decision.
And thus hypocrisy leads to deception, whether intentional or not.
Now, I'm not saying I'm a saint -- far from it really -- but either way, being two-faced has been something I never liked. I have done it. Like for instance, with my family. They disapprove of many things like relationships at an early age. With my ex boyfriend, I had to hide it from them for a year but I couldn't handle it. So eventually, I told them.
Naturally, they didn't take it too well. But there's a huge relief that washes over you when you don't have to hide stuff.

Altho, from experience, I'd rather hide it than have that relief. Because my folks wound up getting paranoid about every guy friend I'd meet after that. And I gave up trying to change their one-tracked minds, their limited paradigms.

But here's the main question really. Is hypocrisy essential to human survival?

Here's my take on it.

I believe it is tho not serious hypocrisy. Not when the deception hurts others or influences someone else in a way. Sometimes, you have to appear strong so others can lean on you. To me, that's hypocrisy because your behaviour betrays what you really feel. So yes, there are times that call for it. When we need to be a tad selfless.

What say you?
